Dance Dance Revolution Winx Club Review

Dance Dance Revolution Winx Club

Yes, this is exactly how I look while playing DDR

So a few months before Season 4 started, Konami decided to release a Winx Club themed Dance Dance Revolution Game. Why they did this, we may never know. However it does show how popular Winx Club is in Europe for Konami to even consider this. As you all may know this game was only released in Europe and since Konami doesn't seem to have the Winx Club license anymore (BandaiNamco I believe now owns the Video Game rights to Winx at this moment.) it is very unlikely that this will be released anywhere else.

I'm going to answer some questions about this game that may have never been answered.

Hey Kendall, Where on Earth did you buy this?
I'm glad you asked! I bought it from here,
You can also buy it with a dance mat but it's not a Winx themed mat, it's just the regular DDR Wii mat.

Is the game in English?
For a short answer yes the game is in English. For a long answer the game has 5 languages but English is the default language even though the game case is in French and German.

Fun Fact: Konami's Winx Club Games were generally in favor of the 4kids Dub (The PC/GBA game, Quest for the Codex, Mission Enchantix and Join the Club) this along with the Diary games have elements from the Rai dub!

So on with the review!

Dance Dance Revolution itself is not worth going into so I'm just going to talk about what this game has to offer, and not from a hardcore DDR fans point of view.

Story

Images taken from neodude's DDR Winx Club Videos

The story for each girl is exactly the same and they say the exact same thing to each other. (oh the lazyness.)

Anyway the story is this, "insert Winx Girl Here" gets a letter from the Specialists attached to a gift. When she reads the letter she quickly finds out that the gift is for the best dancer of the Winx. So said Winx Girl goes all around Alfea and Magix finding the other Winx Girls and challenging them to Dance Battles.....I am serious, this is the story.

In the end after said Winx Girl beats everyone else in dance contests that no one was around to watch she happily opens the gift. Upon opening the gift she wonders if she can accept all the victories.....whatever that means. It's not clearly explained what the gift was but I think it's safe to say that it was multiple invitations to a dance party. She then realizes that the Specialists made them all have fun by dancing and rushed to tell the other girls to practice dancing for the party.....THE END!

GEEEZ.....It didn't help that the girls were acting like stereotypical Japanese Anime Girls.

Anyway you have to dance against the 5 other Winx girls. Here are the songs and stages

You Made Me a Woman - Magical Archives
Stand Up - Main Hall in Alfea
Only a Girl - Alfea Courtyard
Fly - Downtown Magix on top of a water fountain @_@....IDK
Enchantix - Red fountain stage that Musa performed on in Season 2

After you beat the story you unlock the "Dance" outfit (the outfits on the cover of the game) for the Winx you were playing as along with 2 songs

Anyway you have to play through the story a total of 9 times to unlock all the songs and courses.

around the 7th play-through the songs go from basic to difficult to expert.

Now when you are in a dance battle, It's not necessarily a Dance Battle. It's more like you are just trying to pass the song while the other girl is dancing next to you as if  you are playing in 2-player mode but you're not. Let me explain, If you are playing in 1-Player free play mode, the other Winx acts as a backup dancer. In 2-Player Mode the the other girl literally dances next to you.

Gameplay

Typicall DDR Wii with gimmicks thrown in and the ability to uses your Wii remote along with the steps (not recommended)

The difficulty, however, has been greatly reduced. This is probably the easiest DDR game in history, not to say that it's actually easy for non-hardcore DDR players. An EXPERT level song is at best a really hard BASIC on other DDR games

If you dance well enough and your dance gauge reaches the max you will be able to transform into an Enchantix Fairy. This will only happen if you have danced so well that it's not possible for you to make a score below a B. To transform in Basic Mode you basically need to have a perfect score on some songs.

Fun Fact: Layla's Enchantix is Turquoise like it was in the first half of Season 3 as opposed to it being green in the second half of Season 3.

Presentation

It's just DDR Hottest Party 2 with Pink slapped all over it.

Graphics

The graphics are what you would expect from a DDR game on Wii. The character Models are better than most Winx games. (Excluding Rockstars)

The girls have 3 outfits, their basic Season 3 casual outfit, their outfits they wear in Season 3 when they go out in Magix and their dancing outfits. You unlock these by playing the tutorial and story mode.

Songs

As much as I love the Winx Club songs featured in this game, they are not fun to dance to. Plus there are only 7 Winx songs along with 20 Bemani songs which adds up to a total of 27 songs. Considering a lot of DDR games push 70+ songs, this is a very short list.

Overall:

This game is perfect for kids since the steps are much easier than other DDR games including DDR Mario Mix. The overall "Winx" feel is very minimal as their are times when I don't feel like I'm playing a Winx version of DDR but instead DDR that just happens to have the Winx girls as character models.

If I had to rate this game I would give it a 6/10

It's not a bad game, but the song list is lacking and their aren't many things to keep you coming back compared to other DDR games.
